Death

Death

Eyes of ice pierce and my skin slips away
The flesh, caressed by a frozen stare
Shrivels and falls away
Exposing bone bleached with fear.
The bone shatters, ash rising in a swirling fog of anticipation
My spirit shivers as the fog drifts away
On the breath of insanity’s cold kiss
The proof lies bare.
The truth of me in barren nudity
I turn away, afraid to accept my naked gaze
And the heat overwhelms me.

Death Shall have no Dominion

And death shall have no dominion.
Dead men naked they shall be one
With the man in the wind and the west moon;
When their bones are picked clean and the clean bones gone,
They shall have stars at elbow and foot;
Though they go mad they shall be sane,
Though they sink through the sea they shall rise again;
Though lovers be lost love shall not;
And death shall have no dominion

Dylan Thomas (1914-1953)

"Death is but putting out the light because the dawn has come"

Rabindranath Tagore
