Primal Scream (Refuse to Bow Down)

This image was inspired by the life and work of Irina Ratushinskaya, a Russian poetess, sentenced to a 5 year term in a Soviet gulag for and 5 years internal exile for 7 of her poems.
She epitomises to me the strength and endurance of the human spirit while existing under oppressive circumstances. She is one of so many brave people who inspire me.
In her biography, whilst on the train with her fellow prisoners, they discuss how they will survive in this grim, torturous place. Irina quotes the author Solzenhistsyn
